To the Point

  • If you run out of trash bags for dirty diaper, you can use a glove as a makeshift trashbag

Lets Talk

Imaging this, you are out and about with your child. When suddenly, you child makes the messiest of diapers. Your brought your diaper bag……thank goodness. However, after cleaning up your baby and providing them with a fresh diaper, you notice something terrible. There is no disposal bins near by and you don’t have any trash bags left in your diaper bag. This situation can be frustrating. Caring are a messy diaper with you or in your car is not exactly the ideal situation. I am here to help. I learned a trick from a few nurses in my family. Its called the Glove Trick. Simple put, it is a way to seal up a diaper using the glove that you used when changing your child.

Below are illustrations depicting how to use a glove as a trash bag. Warning! The bigger the diaper, the cheaper or smaller the glove, the more difficult this trick will be. NEVERTHELESS! It is an incredibly useful trick in a pinch.

  1. Using your gloved hand, carefully bundle the diaper on itself. Grab onto the diaper with your gloved hand.

2. Using your free, ungloved hand, carefully start turning the glove inside out. Starting from the wrist and work your way towards your fingers. You may need to wiggle and reposition your fingers to keep a good grasp on the diaper.

3. Continue pulling the wrist of the glove over you hand and over the diaper until the diaper is completely covered by the glove and your gloved fingers are not free.

4. THIS STEP CAN BE KINDOF TRICKY. Using the now inside out wrist cuff of the glove, tie the glove closed using a simple over hand knot and pull snuggly closed. (See Animated Knots – Overhand Knot for quick tutorial on simple overhand knot)

I have also attached a video and a set of .gif files below to provide a better visual representation. If you are in a place with slower internet connection, the .gif files may be easier for you to view.
